Working on Access Services at Sky
My name is Aaron Winkle and I've been working at Sky now for over eight years. The majority of these years have been spent working as part of the Media Management team which I am gladly still a part of today. Media Management, to put it simply, liaise with various other departments to ensure content is delivered to sky and reaches our customers successfully on the variety of platforms we have available. The scope of our responsibilities in Media Management is ever increasing which constantly offers us opportunities to learn new systems and provide our customers with a range of options for how they consume Sky's content.
The area of Media Management where I have spent most of my time is working with the Access Services team. Access Services focus is on providing 20% of Sky content with Audio Description and 80% with subtitling. I am proud to say we often surpass these statistics and I truly believe that's due to our desire to ensure our customers who require Access Services are provided the best viewing experience we have to offer. We strive to offer our services for high profile programming. We always ensure that once we provide our service for a programme all subsequent series are also covered even if we have already surpassed our target percentages.
I myself am currently working on the subtitling team and am working closely with our subtitle provider Deluxe focusing on providing subtitles for our sport content. Sports offers quite a challenge for subtitles as the schedules are constantly changing due to the nature of live sporting events. We monitor our sports subtitling coverage daily in order to ensure we are reaching or surpassing our 80% target. We also constantly do our best to make certain the high profile sporting events Sky have to offer such as Premier League fixtures, The Masters and Formula One Grand Prix have subtitling provided.
Over the years I've worked on all areas of Subtitling and also on our Audio Description service. I've had the chance to work alongside many other people who have joined the Access Services team and I've come to notice just how quickly everyone grasps the importance of the service we provide. I think of Subtitling and Audio Description as an inclusive service. We often take for granted, I know I do, just how central television is to our everyday lives. It's a source of news, a source of entertainment and often an important escape from the stresses of life. Many people require Access Services to be able to enjoy all three of those simple things and we often hear of how our services allow people to be included in everyday conversations with friends and family. This is something we take great pride in and we will continually strive to provide our customers with the opportunity to enjoy the best that Sky has to offer.
