Subtitles

Subtitles are the written representation of the dialogue and sound effects from a film or television programme. They appear on screen in synchronisation with the original soundtrack, making it possible for Deaf and hard of hearing people to enjoy programmes on Sky TV.

Sky has been broadcasting subtitles since 1993. Sky channels are regulated under the 2003 Communications act, and follow the Ofcom Code on Television Access Services.

Follow the steps below to set up subtitles permanently on Sky+HD boxes. (Except Thomson Sky+HD boxes)

  1. Press the Help button on your Sky remote control.
  2. Highlight subtitles, and then use the left/right arrow keys to turn the setting On.
  3. Press the Select button on your Sky remote control to confirm your choice.

You can also use these 3 steps to set up subtitles temporarily until you change channel on Thomson Sky+HD boxes,  Sky HD Multiroom boxes, and Sky+ and Digiboxes.  You can still set up subtitles permanently on these boxes using the instructions below.
