Sky Q accessibility settings

You can find the Sky Q accessibility settings from the Home screen or by using shortcuts.

Turning on subtitles

When subtitles are available for a show, S will be displayed in the programme information. 

To turn on subtitles from the Home screen:

  1. Using any Sky Q remote, press Home, and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility, then Subtitles, and change the setting from Off to On.

To turn on subtitles using shortcuts while watching TV:

On the Sky Q remote

  1. Press ? on your Sky Q remote to bring up accessibility options on your screen.
  2. Select Subtitles to change the setting from Off to On.

On the Sky Q accessible remote

  1. Press the subtitles button to bring up accessibility options on your screen.
  2. Select Subtitles to change the setting from Off to On.

Note that subtitles may be available for some shows in Top Picks, but subtitles are not currently available for our other Catch Up TV, Sky Box Sets shows and on demand movies. 

Highlighting subtitled shows

Subtitles are available for many shows. If you want to see at a glance which shows have subtitles available, you can make them stand out in the TV Guide by displaying a white highlight over the show name.

To do this:

  1. Using any Sky Q remote, press Home, and select Settings, then select Accessibility.
  2. Select Highlight programmes, then select Subtitles.

Turning on Audio Description

When Audio Description is available for a show, AD will appear in the programme information.

To turn on Audio Description from the Home screen:

  1. Using any Sky Q remote, press Home, and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility, then Audio description and change the setting from Off to On.

To turn on Audio Description using shortcuts while watching TV:

On the Sky Q remote

  1. Press ? on your Sky Q remote to bring up accessibility options on your screen.
  2. Select Audio description to change the setting from Off to On.

On the Sky Q accessible remote

  1. Press the AD button to bring up accessibility options on your screen.
  2. Select Audio description to change the setting from Off to On.

Note with the Audio Description setting on, you will not be able to listen to shows in Dolby Digital using a 5.1 surround sound system.

Highlighting audio described shows

Audio Description tracks are available for many shows. If you want to see at a glance which shows have Audio Description available, you can make them stand out in the TV Guide by displaying a white highlight over the show name.

To do this:

  1. Using any Sky Q remote, press Home, and select Settings, then select Accessibility.
  2. Select Highlight programmes, then select Audio Desc.

Turning Beep on Audio Description On or Off

You can choose to hear a beep when you tune into a channel that's showing an audio described show, so you know when it's available. 

To do this:

  1. Press Home on any Sky Q remote, and select Settings, then select Accessibility.
  2. Select Beep on audio description and select On to turn this setting on.

Note that the Audio Description setting will need to be turned on, if you would like to hear Audio Description after the beep.
