Five Zoom films will be showing at the East End Film Festival in what is a major breakthrough for BSL films into the mainstream festival circuit.

The End, Confession, Little World, Strangers and You, Me will be showing at the Genesis Cinema in Mile End, east London on 30 June. Trailers for Crossing the Divide and September 11 will also be on show. A question and answer session with the filmmakers hosted by BSLBT’s outreach worker Steven Wynne will follow the screenings.

The East End Film Festival has been running for 12 years, leading the way as one of the most creative and cutting edge film and arts festivals in the UK and Europe. Its mission is to discover, support, and exhibit pioneering work by global and local independent filmmakers, and to introduce viewers to innovative and challenging cinematic experiences. Among its patrons are internationally renowned filmmakers Danny Boyle, Stephen Woolley and Asif Kapadia.

Maverick Litchfield-Kelly of Neath Films which has been running the Zoom scheme says: “It is a huge honour that this year they are dedicating a two-hour slot to BSL and Deaf filmmaking, and it is with great pride that Neath Films have supplied them with five films and two trailers from the Zoom scheme. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the quality of Deaf filmmakers, telling stories about their own culture which have crossover potential.” Find out more here
