We believe everyone should be able to enjoy great TV. That’s why we provide an Audio Description service for blind and partially sighted Sky TV customers. To try it out, just pick up your Sky remote. And then press Help. Down. Right. Select. That’s Help, Down, Right, Select.

Audio Description on Sky

If you have a Sky+ HD box follow these steps to set up Audio Description permanently

• Press TV Guide
• On the top menu (single screen navigation) select OPTIONS
• Then select SUBTITLES from the middle menu
• The second line of this menu is Audio Description On/Off. using the Change to On
• Line four is for Highlighting Programmes, choose Audio Description
• The fifth line is Beep On Audio Description. Change to ON
• When you have made your selection, press the green button to save.

Setting up Audio Description permanently if you have a Sky Digibox and Sky+ box

Detailed below are instructions on how to set up the audio description, and to highlight audio description programmes on your TV Guide menu.

• Press the Services Button on the remote control.
• Select Four for System Set Up.
• Then three for Language and Subtitles
• Highlight Narrative, using the right/left arrow key change to ON
• Using the down arrow key highlight ‘Highlighted Programmes’ using the left/right arrow key change to Audio Description
• Highlight ‘Beep if Narrative Present’, using the right/left arrow key change to ON
• Highlight save New Settings and press Select

When pressing the TV GUIDE button on the remote control, programmes with audio description can be identified by a white banner on the programme title, when selecting the programme the Audio Description will automatically appear.

Sky aims to offer audio description to a wide audience of viewers and therefore includes audio described programmes across all Sky channels (with the exception of Sky Sports and Sky News). However, the four regional channels only include the audio description function in their London region. Therefore, if you live outside London, please note that you will have to select the following channels:

BBC1 London, channel number 974
BBC2 England, channel number 989
ITV 1 London, channel number 993
Channel 4 London, channel number 994

View our TV listings for audio described programmes where you will find all relevant programmes for the next seven days. Alternatively we can arrange for the listings to be sent to you via post or e-mail.  If you require the listings to be sent, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will arrange this for you.

We also have an ‘Audio Narrative Beep’ feature, which allows our visually impaired customers to identify when an audio description track is present while scrolling in television viewing.
