If you have a visual impairment

Audio Description

Audio description is an additional commentary that describes what is happening on the screen or the stage for people who have difficulty seeing the action, body language, facial expressions, costume or scenery.

Audio description is now available on television, video and DVD, as well as in cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries and sports venues. For more information visit the website of RNIB.

Sky has recently increased the amount of Audio Description. We now provide 20% AD on our channels, with the exception of Sky Sports and Sky News which is not required to provide audio description due the amount of spoken words used in news reading.

Accessible Remote Control

In 2007 we developed the Sky+ Easy Grip Remote Control. This is the first Accessible Remote and has recently been awarded an Age OK Accreditation. As well as being designed to help grip the remote it also has raised buttons with larger text.

Sky Talker

For the first time Sky customers will be able to hear some of the on screen text. It will vocalise the search and scan banner, programme synopsis information and Sky+ functionality such as play, pause and rewind - making navigation easier and quicker for blind and partially sighted customers. For more information, visit our Sky Talker information page

Alternative Formats

For our blind and visually impaired customers we offer a choice of alternative correspondence formats. You have the choice of Braille, Large Print and Audio CD and currently 3,000 of our subscribers make use of this service.
