What Sky offers

Subtitling

Subtitling for deaf and hard of hearing people is the synchronised written representation of all elements of a film or television programme soundtrack, including dialogue, music and other sound effects. Sky moved over to Re-Speaking for live subtitles in January 2006 and no longer use keyboards to create live subtitles.

Sky has been providing subtitling since 1993 and now offer subtitles on all Sky channels and 100% of Sky Box Office movies. Sky channels are regulated under the 2003 Communications Act, for the provision of subtitles. For more information, read the Ofcom First Quarter Report for 2009.

You can also view our seven day listings of all our subtitled programmes by visiting the What's on TV section of this site.

Sign language

British Sign language (BSL) is a language in its own right, using hand movements and facial expressions to represent letters, words or phrases rather than spoken words. In the spring of 2003 the Government formally recognised the existence of BSL. It is used by deaf people within the United Kingdom and has more users than the Welsh Language.
